Also no under seat storage. Doesn't seem worth it at all to get the hybrid.

The normal iForce powertrain feels good, I'm not going to pay an extra 4K to gain maybe half a second on the 0-60 and still not be faster than any normal full-size.

I'm debating if I want a hybrid as well. I go up In the mountains a lot but I'm starting to wonder if it's worth it .

The generator mode. 2400 watts. I was pretty much sold when that number was published. That or flappers on my steering wheel on the RR. Whew, tough choice.

Toyota has always made it clear they don't want to be the industry leader in numbers. Payload, towing, horsepower, etc.

I also find it odd none of these reviews are actually in city/stop and go traffic where the hybrid would be most efficient

It should have been a no-brainer to opt for the hybrid versus gasser as has been the case for other Toyota models for years. Generator-capability not withstanding, its anything but a no-brainer given the limited performance gains. Will reserve final judgement until I drive one, but I'd likely take a pass if I were trading up.

And just like that, we’re back to saying that the hybrid system doesn’t contribute anything.

    Still not remotely accurate though

It doesn't contribute much in a 0-60 which we all find surprising. That's about all that's confirmed and you're ignoring nearly every other positive comment related to the hybrid.

Edit to move payload to Pros column

    Hybrid Pros v Cons

    Pros:
    - Eliminates turbo lag
    - Extra hp and torque
    - 2400 watt inverter
    - Better mpg (however minimal)
    - Higher payload
    - larger brakes
    - larger diffs
    - stronger CVs

    Cons:
    - Lose of under seat storage
    - More complicated, costlier repairs
    - $3700 surcharge (but you get alot for the $)

    Please add to this.....

According to EPA estimates hybrid gains 1 mpg city and loses 2 mpg highway over ICE only. The Toyota Synergy Drive widely used in a variety of other vehicles provides a big improvement in fuel economy, lower emissions and improved power characteristics for $12 to $15 hundred more and that can be recouped in a couple or three years depending on driving habits and fuel cost. The Tacoma hybrid, not so much.

Where are you seeing a loss of 2mpg highway? Both the sport and OR hybrids give a gain in both city and highway mileage

The OR gains 4mpg (22%) in the city and 1mpg highway

IMO I think the BLC wheels look epic, to each their own though. I really am looking forward to this truck that for my intended wants, needs absolutely nothing aside from regular maintenance and fuel. I'm keeping it just as it was originally engineered :bananadance:

While I have stated before that if you drive similar to the EPA test you will get EPA numbers, that won't be true for the hybrid highway numbers. Because the EPA highway test is only 10 miles and includes accelerating from zero and slowing to 30 and then accelerating back to 65. The highway test is averaged with the "high speed" test which is only 8 miles and has multiple (7) stops followed by accelerating back to 65-80mph. The hybrid will help slightly in these scenarios but if you drove 100+miles all steady state (at 65ish) the small fuel savings will average out to almost nothing and the 400lb additional weight will have the most effect resulting in ~1mpg less mpg.

For starters, there's MORE payload on the hybrids so you can put that in as a pro, not con. All of the updated materials state the offroad has 1700lbs, the pro 1680ish, the Trailhuner 1450ish after adding the rails, rack, underbody protection etc.

Didnt someone mention larger brakes and other mechanical differences? There are definitely more that I am forgetting.

We have yet to see a single person drive them in stop and go traffic which is where it would shine, but once again.... doom and gloom

Remind me again why we can’t just use a naturally aspirated V8 that will be lighter and generate more horsepower instead we have all this Rube Goldberg nonsense of hybrids and turbos?
