You need to drop the front diff, then remove the upper oil pan.
But before you go balls deep, are you able to lineup timing marks?

dropping the diff sounds really painful, no?

The center bolt with the oil passages is different on the old motor than the new ones, I think that means the corresponding phasers HAVE to be different and therefore need changed right?

I would not know what is the faster/better way - drop the diff or pull the engine out.

What oil passages are you talking about exactly?

The ones that the solenoids interact with. You can see them in the last picture I showed, they're the little round things in the middle of the cam phasers, and they have different oil passageways from the old ones, so the phasers and that hollow bolt setup have to match or the timing won't retard/advance.

We'd have been the first to know.
I feel for this dude, genuinely.

I don't do lawsuits, but his guy's dealer should have been pursued.

Pictures are worth a thousand words and the OP had them.
Like the rest of the general public, juries hate car dealerships.
It would have been a slam dunk civil case, in all likelihood settled quickly and out of court.

Hasn’t been around in a month. Perhaps he’s had more pressing issues arise.

I’d like to think he fixed it and is on a road trip to Hawaii right now, and doesn’t get cell service in the Pacific!

Had to move into a different shop on the other side of the yard and got tied up, finally getting back to this. Meanwhile driving F-250 - long story. Now Ram, Duramax, Ford involved in providing support services for taco.

Here's the phasers now that we pulled the motor again, really hope this fixes it. Also changing the sensor on the crank too in case it's different.

I hate to say it, but I’m glad to see you haven’t thrown in the towel yet you have the patience of the saint. I would’ve lost my marbles by now.
