I was there yesterday to pick up some rear leaf springs (going RAS and just couldn’t pull the trigger to want a lift) as they had the best price. After loading up, I went over to the row of Torque Gens and they looked good all lined up meticulously. I stood there trying my best to like it. 3rd Gem ain’t lasting forever. But the downside for me is the 4 banger as I studied the hood. I don’t care how much power it makes. It’ll be straining soon enough making that juice. Particularly built ones. Well, what about their pricing. Any markups…

I walked over to the Tundra that caught my eye initially. Very nice looking ride. But they ain’t budging. And by the looks of the herds that were there for different reasons, they can maintain to hold steadfast. Although this area again looked like a ghost town. The car in the photo was looking for parking! It was that crazy. “Hmmm, I did notice some bee droppings on the black SR5 4x4 nearest in the photo. Has it been sitting for long?” I walked over…46K. Fuck that. If it had a V6, maaaaaybe.

Sport was going for almost 50K. I wasn’t bothering with the nice looking ones they were being washed or that were in their showroom. The one that was being washed looked built and looked the part $$$$.

I’m going to wait while I can hoping for a change. Toyota USA comes in here to read no doubt. It’s funny how they copy what people have done here. What I like about Ford is the different engine options they have offered over the years. And if Kia offered the Tas stateside, everyone going turbo, who wouldn’t want a twin turbo V6? Less strain in my book pushing and hauling what a mid-size truck does on a daily basis. I’m more a naturally aspirated kinda fella on the meat and potatoes side. But unfortunately the industry is a monkey see monkey do!

That was like reading a James Joyce novel about truck shopping.

You really think someone at Toyota is reading this crap? Got their finger on the pulse of the blogosphere?

I wouldn’t be surprised if they had ppl peek into vehicle specific groups. Lots of data.

I used to work at a MAJOR offroad powersports company. I can confirm that engineers and product managers did, in fact, read the forums. They looked for trending, high profile failures, and customization trends that could be incorporated into future products.

Love this post! And since we're talking about James Joyce, cheers mate

And now I have a confession. Once I saw the torque gen (gonna borrow OP's nomenclature here) I was anti. Hated it. First one I saw in person was white and that color just doesn't help the lines of these new trucks. It looked horrible. Then I saw one in purple (blue?). Decided they look real sharp from the B pillar forward, but look horrendous from there back. Then it happened. Yup. I saw one in bronze oxide and thought, "Shit! That is a nice looking truck. I want that" However, I still can't dig the rear lines like the fender bubble directly behind the rear wheels and I don't like how the rear bumper slants into the frame. Maybe if I got one I would learn to love it or I would only look at it B pillar forward?

But, that's all subjective. I guess what really matters is the point OP raises about the 4 banger. I mean, this isn't a Civic we're talking about here. Or since Toyota went rear coil springs, do they just expect people to use this truck as a mall crawler?

Anyways, the more torque gens I see, the more I like them. Just not white, please.

$4600 for the upgrade package is a joke. Ford charges half of that to upgrade from a 4cyl to a twin turbo V6.

10-4, they’re not stupid and know that’s where improvements can be made. or at least catered to.

I’m not surprised because the first thing I noticed was either a sign, or over the speakers, but that they guarantee a 59 minute service with an appointment.

The amount of people working here was insane. They can sit all they want on the merchandise knowing eventually someone will.

I totally agree on OP post, sad people are purchasing these dealer prices on top of dealer installed options, port installed options, plus ridiculous APR rates. Future gen 4’s in upcoming years gonna have those extras as standard equipment at SRP, with better finance rates in my opinion

Got my 10k service today and they had a TRD Sport sitting for close to a week. Salesman said the $52k price has ppl shaking their heads. It’s slick af tho, that underground looks great on it.

I think a 6’ bed might help the rear end bc the 5’ bed looks extra small imo. I know it’s the same size, but it just looks disproportionate.

I got my 3rd gen from Longo 2 years ago and they wouldn't budge at the time either. I was lucky at the time to not pay dealer markup.

    WJ,

That’s too true, too much of a meat and potatoes kind of a guy! Hell, I used to teach, so I’m not going to give the answers away that easy
